lyrics

The Kingdom of the Nimbys has the wind
and we must enter their land
Try to make them play a team game
that they don't understand
They think electric fairies live inside
the walls of their house
no need to sacrifice
the fairies will never run out

self-interest turns into protest
the curtain twitchers
sing THEIR anthem like this:

So don't put that wind farm
in my back yard
or so help me god
I'll stab you up
with whatever I've got to hand

And these proud reactionaries
think secure, clean energy
somehow only works
if you build it near the poor
they've gotta get used to
turbines like pylons
or face the fact
that their precious view just wont be here any more

They think its all conspiracy designed to devalue their land
but they just live where the wind is
they wont feel it cos their head's in the sand

self-interest turns into protest
the curtain twitchers
sing THEIR anthem like this:

So don't put that wind farm
in my back yard
or so help me god
I'll stab you up
with whatever I've got to hand

And these proud reactionaries
think secure, clean energy
somehow only works
if you build it near the poor
they've gotta get used to
turbines like pylons
or face the fact
that their precious view just wont be here any more

Drilling deep, out off the shore
is a failure of common sense
yet we invest our pension funds in it and what's more
we're still burning coal
missing the open goal
that we've got so many wind and wave resources
these tools block off with their exaggerated voices
cos most of us
would happily entrust
our futures to what can be renewed so we must...

Raise our voice up high
And say yes to change this time
Its a call to arms
we want more wind farms

so tell them how you feel
cos your voice isn't heard
while they observe
their vigils for the narrow minded few
so tell them how you feel
cos i think its absurd
we cant disturb
the power of this antique point of view
now is the time to do
